Ann K. Merrill
Ann K. Merrill is a senior associate in Sellar Hazard & Lucia’s construction defect practice group representing landowners, developers, and contractors. Prior to joining SH&L, Ms. Merrill specialized in creditor’s rights litigation. As a managing attorney for two collection firms, Ms. Merrill gained extensive experience in the administration of civil litigation for numerous cases filed throughout California and the preparation of complaints, default judgments, motions, and settlement agreements. Additionally, Ms. Merrill hired and trained the firm’s legal support staff and developed operating procedures for two branch offices. The first office processed over 2,000 civil collection cases per month resulting in $2 million in monthly collections. The second generated the firm’s highest monthly revenue for a single branch office.
As a former Deputy District Attorney for El Dorado County, Ms. Merrill represented the State in the prosecution of DUI, domestic violence, and theft cases from the initial charging of the offense and arraignment to negotiating pleas and conducting jury trials. This experience provided her with an opportunity to develop courtroom skills in arguing motions before a judge, performing direct and cross examination of witnesses, and presenting evidence before a jury.
